Firstly, I hope you are keeping well, safe and that you are taking the time to look after yourself, if you’re reading this and haven’t treated yourself to at least one nice thing today, be it a walk, a biscuit or subscribing to a newsletter treating yourself nice can sometimes be the hardest thing to do so go do that.
Welcome aboard this exploration across the vast and ever changing landscapes of Scottish women’s football. In 1972 The Ravenscraig Pioneers took to the field in Greenock on a cold November day and since then the terraforming hasn’t stopped.
There’s been struggles, car lights on ash pitches, title wins on public parks but the game is continuing to grow. It’s bigger and more bombastic than ever before. The national side have competed at a European Championships and World Cup, the domestic game in Scotland has set itself off on a record breaking run like no other and beyond Scottish borders stars such as Erin Cuthbert and Caroline Weir are becoming household names.
This newsletter is here to celebrate it all, to find the stories about the women’s game that are still to go untold, to provide a platform for this current generation to tell their stories, to analyse the game both on and off the pitch and hopefully turn a few cynics into believers along the way.
My promise to you is that no piece will be submitted to your inbox without the care and attention that the coverage of the women’s game in Scotland deserves to be taken with.
Tell your friends, tell your enemies, tell everyone…Scottish women’s football is massive and it’s only just getting started!
